The tech layoffs and impending recession has hit the world like a ton of bricks, and with the number of job losses expected to increase, you must protect yourself from its impact on your career and personal life. This blog will assist you to shield yourself from the impacts of the ongoing IT slowdown:

1. Upskill Yourself - A No Brainer, right?

It is important to be proactive and avoid following a herd rushing to just a trending skill. Before starting to invest yourself in learning a new skill, ask yourself these questions:

Q. Will this skill be relevant & applicable in the near future innovation?
Q. Can I leverage this with my existing skillset?
Q. Will this help me in moving towards my dream industry or work?

If your answers are positive, then walk the walk If No, then research deeper to find something that you like and that address the 3 crucial questions too.

2. Network - Add Value, Get Value

Network & Connect with diverse people. Not merely to request a job referral, but to establish long-term connections where it can be mutually fruitful. Just getting a new job with a referral won't aid you in an economic/IT slump, these connections will be helpful in unanticipated ways.
Maintain contact with your former coworkers as well.

3. Portfolio - Your Best Resume

Adding new income sources will always go long way for you. Put your strengths to land some freelancing work…you will soon gain more than just money.
You'll have a hustle which may open new doors too (The connections you've built can be helpful here) Added income stream - Will reduce your overall pressure to keep up with the downturn

5. Adapt & Adjust - Being Resilient

Many aspects are unpredictable and beyond your control, therefore you must be ready to persevere through adversity. Be patient with the new skills, even the master was once a beginner. You will have to be adaptable to new workplaces and responsibilities.
Be flexible and open-minded if things don't go your way. Once the storm passes you can get on top of the situation (You can do it, You are adaptable remember?)
